Letter
to the Editor
Dear
Editor:
As
a former resident of Angelica and one who still considers
it home, I read in the news about the furor the Voith's
animals were causing some citizens in the village.
My reaction to the article has caused me to write
a response.
America
is made up of many different religious sects and belief
systems. The thing that sets us apart from the rest
of the world is that we have given these people the
right to believe any way they choose and not live
in fear of retribution.
There
are a lot of things I don't understand about other
religions, such as a cow in your living room and beating
drums. However, I do understand they have been given
this right when our colonies became a nation and who
are we to say it is wrong, wherever they live?
The
articles I have read say the Voith's animals are penned
up and are not running up and down the street and
have proven not to be a vicious worry. One shop owner's
concern about them possibly running down Main Street
and “mowing over her customers” makes me wonder!
Apparently
some of the citizens residing in Angelica did not
learn much from the events of 9/11. Where is the compassion
and kindness and understanding, and the acceptance
of our individual differences that came out of those
terrible incidents? Has it skipped some of the citizens
of Angelica entirely?
You
know ordinances do sometimes become archaic and need
to be updated. Just because Angelica is a small town,
it doesn't need to reflect small minds.
Citizens
of dissent, please put your energies in something
more worthwhile than a cow being in your neighborhood
and someone chanting and beating a drum!
